Storm Launched at Sight Village

Fri Jul 27 2007

Storm, Claro software’s latest PC accessibility program for low vision and blind people was launched at the Sight Village Exhibition, The Clarendon Suites, Birmingham, England during 17-19 July 2007.

Storm, combines the benefits and features of Claro’s popular Lightning Magnifier and Thunder Screenreader programs. With up to 32 times screen magnification and realistic text reading voices, low vision and blind PC users can quickly learn how to produce and check documents, send and receive emails and browse the internet.

One of the most innovative features is Storm’s USB memory stick, giving users the ‘freedom to roam’ and use other computers - there is no need to install software or request administrative help, just ‘plug-it-in and go’.

Thunder screenreader, the power behind Storm’s impressive text reading abilities, was released 12 months ago as a free download for blind and low vision home PC users. It has been hugely successful achieving over 15,000 downloads in its first year and receiving substantial praise and recognition. Its popularity is a reflection of its effectiveness as an accessibility tool for this user group, being simple and easy to use. It works seamlessly with most PCs and software including Windows and Microsoft Office - Thunder PLUS, which is an enhanced commercial version, includes Realspeak voices, Dragon speech recognition, echo playback and a USB memory stick.

The Lightning magnifier which is incorporated into Storm has been enhanced, making it faster and clearer with smoother text resolution. Like Thunder PLUS, Lightning can be purchased separately from Storm and is also available on a USB stick and works effectively with modern PCs and operating systems including Windows Vista.

Dave Stevens, Commercial Director at Claro software says, “We are excited about the release of Storm, as it delivers the integration that many magnifier users require. The complete portability of the USB versions of Storm, Lightning and Thunder PLUS are generating incredible interest across the world.”

Storm’s CD and USB pack provides low vision and blind users affordable access to the world of PCs. At £199, its cost is a fraction of similar programs on the market – free 15 day download trials of Lightning and Storm are available, alternatively you can order software online at Clarosoftware.com or by visiting www.xpscreenreader.com
